As his name suggests, the singer/songwriter and guitarist Michael Nitro brings intense energy to the stage. Michael Nitro’s vocals and high energy rock guitar riffs are why many consider him one of the most musically entertaining acts on the music scene today. Nitro’s love of music and passion to perform come from both of his musician parents. As a teenager, he would entertain his school mates by leaping onto the lunch tables and doing his best Elvis impression.
The singer/songwriter and guitarist has come a long way since the schoolyard and, since then, has wooed and wowed the crowd for national acts from The Allman Brothers to Neil Young including Bon Jovi, Deep Purple, Grand Funk Railroad, REO Speedwagon and the list goes on.
You never know who is going to show up at a Michael Nitro gig or who he will be on stage with next. In June, out of the blue, the call came in from Sammy Hagar asking Michael and his band to join him and Alice Cooper on stage for one of his upcoming "Sammy's Rock N Roll Road Show" episodes.
Then in July, Derek St. Holmes of the Ted Nugent Band after witnessing The Michael Nitro Band’s opening set, handed Michael his own guitar and invited Michael onstage to play a version of All Right Now by Free.
“I have so many amazing memories and have been incredibly fortunate to share the stage with legendary performers like Sammy Hagar, Alice Cooper, Bo Diddley and Sam Moore. I view each experience as a lesson in greatness.”
When watching the Michael Nitro Band perform, their hunger to play is apparent and their love of music is clear as they bring renewed energy to the stage every night.
“[Performing his original songs is] what his fans love him best for… rock guitar, seasoned with blues sound.” (Fast Lane Magazine)
Although Michael has written outside of the rock genre, he is heavily inspired by the dynamics of Led Zeppelin; the lyrical phrasing of Bad Company lead vocalist and founder, Paul Rodgers; and the raw, sexy, rasp of Steven Tyler of Aerosmith.
Michael recently had a song placed on the new SHOWTIME series, "City on a Hill" starring Kevin Bacon (S01E01).
I had my first paying live gig playing bass at age 12. I played throughout high school throughout Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia. Moved to Philadelphia at age 19 playing with the band Sound Investment then went on to play with USA and Magpie on the circuit for a couple years. Recruited for the renowned Prowler (Apollo Artists) and toured the US East Coast for a year.
A phone call from England and I was on a British Airways 747 to London to join the NWOBHM band Horsepower. Lived in London SW3 and recorded for EMI, Capitol, RCA and Island records. Produced by Jimi Hendrix' producer, Chas Chandler, and also did sessions at Olympic Studios. Being the only "Yanks" on the British heavy metal scene, our much anticipated opening gig at the "Golden Lion" attracted some real heavies such as Robert Plant, John (Paul Jones) Baldwin, Jimmy Page, Hendrix drummer Mitch Mitchell, and Simon Kirke & Mick Ralphs from Bad Co. as reported in the English music newspaper NME "No less than the boring old farts Led Zeppelin were spotted at the Golden Lion to catch the debut of the EMI signed Yank band Horsepower". The British press is ruthless! Gotta say I miss the gammon, eggs and beans for breakfast.
After legal and medical problems (RIP Mike Kennedy) a return to the states and more metal! Dead End Kids, Killroy, Hide Your Daughters and on to Munich to join the German band "Lionheart" on the set of their new video.
After the stay in Germany it was back again to the Philly club circuit with Drop Dead Gorgeous and Madhouse. In 2000, I joined LeCompt, where I stayed and played until 2012.
I now live in Peoria, Arizona where I sing and play bass with the Michael Nitro Band.
